It is desireable that one's baptismal godparents also serve as sponsor for confirmation. The option of choosing a special sponsor for confirmation is not excluded. Although the law (canon) speaks only in the singular, the possiblity of having two sponsors, one male and one female, is not excluded, especially when they are the baptismal godparents.
Qualifications of Sponsors:
That one be designated by the person to be confirmed.
That one be at least 16.
That one is Catholic, confirmed and already has received Holy Eucharist, and likewise leads a life of faith in harmony with the understanding of this duty.
Certificate of Participation in another parish is required for sponsors that are not participating members of this parish.
That one is not under any canonical penalty.
That one is not the father or mother of the one to be confirmed. (Parents may "present" their children for confirmation but may not be the canonical sponsor).
